We are so excited to celebrate with you on the Vineyard!

We encourage you to book your travel as early as possible — Martha’s Vineyard is an island with finite transit availability, and bookings can fill up months in advance. To aid in your planning, we have outlined options for transportation and accommodation below.

  • Mansion House is now taking reservations! Contact the hotel directly to book and say you are with the Carlson wedding.

  • Steamship Authority ferry tickets are now on sale. Car spots will sell out so we encourage you to book ASAP.

Getting There: Transportation Options

  • Flight

    Commercial airlines offer direct flights from Boston and New York to Martha’s Vineyard. Book early before prices rise! Car rentals are also available — we advise booking this well in advance as supply is limited.

  • Car // Ferry

    Steamship authority operates ferries between Woods Hole on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, which can accommodate vehicles with advance reservations. Reserve early as car spots fill up well in advance. Long term parking and passenger-only tickets are available as well.

  • Seastreak Fast Ferry

    Seastreak operates ferries between New Bedford, MA and Martha’s Vineyard. Cars are not permitted on these boats, but long term parking is available. Also accessible by train by taking Amtrak to Providence and then a car to the New Bedford ferry terimal.

Lodging Recommendations

We have secured hotel blocks both in town and “up-island” in Chilmark, the more rural area where most wedding events will be held. We will have shuttles running from both of these locations to the venues. A few additional options are also listed below in case you would prefer to curate your own plans.

MANSION HOUSE INN

  • Located in the village of Vineyard Haven. We have a block of rooms, approx $425/night.

  • Private buses will take guests to and from the Welcome Party on Friday & the Wedding on Saturday (~25 minute drive).

  • Cute town with coffee shops, stores, fitness center, spa & pool, little beach nearby, restaurants.

  • 12 minutes from airport (cabs and Ubers available, but account for wait time). Walking distance from Vineyard Haven ferry port. 10 minutes from Oak Bluffs, 20 minutes from Edgartown.

  • TO BOOK: Contact the inn directly and tell them you are with the Carlson wedding group.

BEACH PLUM INN

  • Located in Chilmark, <2 mins from the venue and <5 mins from the Carlson house. We have a block of rooms and cottages starting at $450/night.

  • Private shuttles will take guests to and from the Welcome Party on Friday and the Wedding on Saturday.

  • More rural and rustic (you might spot some cows!). Breakfast included, walkable to beach and quaint fishing village (Menemsha) via winding sandy footpath, where you can find a seafood spot open for lunch and a few shops.

  • ~20 minutes from airport (cabs/Ubers available, but account for wait time). 22 minute drive from Vineyard Haven, 30 minute drive from Edgartown/Oak Bluffs.

HARBOR VIEW HOTEL

  • More upscale hotel in Edgartown (one of the main towns on MV). Walking distance to cafes, restaurants, and scenic lighthouse. More expensive.

  • We do not have a block here, but you are welcome to book and plan your own transit to/from wedding events.

  • Keep in mind that ride share services do exist on the island, but can be scarce with long wait times. Taxis can also be arranged in advance.

  • 30 minute drive from wedding venue and Carlson house.

VRBO/AIRBNB

  • You are welcome to explore houses for rent on sites like VRBO and Airbnb. Rentals on the Vineyard book out months in advance, so we encourage you to make reservations sooner rather than later.

  • You will need to arrange your own transportation to wedding events in Chilmark.

  • Keep in mind that ride share services do exist on the island, but can be scarce with long wait times. Taxis can also be arranged in advance.

  • Hotel by the harbor in Oak Bluffs (one of the main towns on MV). Walking distance to ferry, cafes, restaurants, and shops.

  • Keep in mind that ride share services do exist on the island, but can be scarce with long wait times. Taxis can also be arranged in advance.
